ABOUT GERMAN
English and German
have some similarities because English is a Germanic language. There are many
words in the English language which are the same in German. Examples include
"butter," "finger," "ring," and "name."
Other words are very similar, such as Vater (father), Mutter (mother), and
Fisch (fish).
Though there are differences
in spoken German, written German is uniform throughout the world. Beginning
after World War II, the traditional Gothic style was replaced by the Roman
alphabet's characters that are used throughout the rest of Western Europe. The only
accent mark used in German is the umlaut (ä, ö, ü).
