ABOUT PORTUGUESE
Spoken by 210 million people worldwide, Portuguese is the
official language of Brazil and Portugal and is spoken in Angola, Cape Verde,
Guinea-Bissau, Sao Tome and Principe, and Mozambique.
Modern Portuguese, a West Iberian Romance language, started in the 16th century and since has changed structure very little in terms of phrases and morphology. French influence during the 18th century altered the Portuguese spoken in Portugal, distinguishing it from the Portuguese spoken elsewhere.
